Throughout my college application process, I have been continually asked about what attributes draw me to a school. Everyone has different priorities when it comes to a college’s qualities, ranging from specific undergraduate programs to campus facilities, location, sports teams, and the school’s reputation. My problem is that I don't want to have to have to choose just one. Trying to find a school that dominates in more than one of these qualities is much more difficult than it seems. Obviously the quality of education is a priority for me but it's hard to overlook these other factors. What are your priorities when it comes to choosing colleges?

  2. In my case, my priorities for choosing a college are different than the average, since I'm going to art school. And that means art classes, which here count as electives and can't replace core classes--but that's not really the point. I guess what I'm looking for in a college is (a) opportunities to study abroad (France, specifically), (b) If they have majors related to what I want to do, and (c) location.

  3. When it comes to colleges and applying i started right away when school started and had an idea that I for sure wanted to go to Central Michigan University. I got accepted to both Central and Western and a couple other schools and when that happened it changed everything. I have no idea where I want to go now. Also I always thought I wanted to be in business but then it started changing right as I was applying to colleges and now there are like three different majors I am interested in and they are all polar opposites. So when it comes to choosing a college I am probably more Interested in the quality of education in the specific field that I want to do, but as of right now I am not sure exactly what I want to do.

  4. Yeah I'm in a similar situation (to Michael) where the quality of education is a priority but I'm unsure of what field I'm going to end up in. I want to go to a school that specializes in what I want to do but it's impossible to make that decision when I'm not positive of what that field is. Two schools that I have applied to and am interested in that seem to have great programs in a variety of interests are University of Michigan Ann Arbor and Northwestern University. These are my top two schools right now not only from a convenience standpoint (them being fairly close to where we live now), but because of their broad range of programs. They also make it fairly easy to switch your major which is something that interests me as well.

  6. I've kind of learned that there's a give an take system. For example, I would like to go to U of M and go to Ross Business School. To me, U of M is the perfect school for me (sports teams, city, education), but it is harder to get accepted than more schools. I am interested in U of Texas-Austin, but it doesn't have as good of a business school. On the other hand, it has a really nice city that is big on music. It's hard to find a perfect school that you know you'll get accepted to, but there are still many other schools that have most of what you're looking for, although you might have to give a few things up.
